The Envirothon is one of the state’s largest environmental education competitions. In Minnesota, an estimated 1,000 students participate in the Envirothon competition annually.
Student teams compete by demonstrating their knowledge of environmental science and natural resource management issues. Teams consisting of 5 students from the same school/organization visit 6 learning stations covering Soils, Aquatics, Forestry, Wildlife, and Current Environmental Issue. The 2012 Current Environmental Issue is Non-Point Source Pollution/Low Impact Development. Natural Resource professionals from across the state are presenters at each learning station. They use the outdoor setting as well as their own props to add to the experience.
The Envirothon is more than a competition. Together with teachers, schools and professionals, we help create new leaders that will make informed decisions, provide vision for our future and well-being that affect our quality of life.
